Field Day 2017: A School Celebration

CPCS Scholars have fun at Field Day

On Friday, June 9th, the entire Challenge Charter School community came together for its annual Field Day at Bayswater Park. A joint effort between the K-5, Middle School, and Parent Association, the event featured over 20 activities and food for over 600 scholars. Founder and CEO, Dr. Mullings served as host and welcomed all of the scholars, teachers, staff and volunteers.

Athletic Director Brian MacConnell, Coach Stephen Reilly, and Coach Ryan Hassel planned and set up the physical activities. Speaking on behalf of the PhysEd team, Coach Hassel commented, "Field Day is a favorite event that is extremely memorable for our scholars, and we all anticipate this exciting outdoor tradition every year. The Physical Education staff is extremely always excited to see scholars demonstrate their skills and sportsmanship that they have learned throughout the year. The events planned during this unforgettable day help bring our staff together, and we especially love to hear students interacting, building friendships, and working together. That's what it's all about--helping students appreciate the benefits of physical happiness, exercise, and teamwork!"

Some of the fun included Water Bucket Brigade, 3 bouncy houses, a Petting Zoo, Spoon Egg Relay, Football Fun, Soccer Relay, Potato Sack, Furthest Throw, Obstacle Course, Tug-O-War, Fastest Kid, Water Balloon, Hula Hoop, Pin Ball, Basketball/Double Dutch, Pepper Steppers/Double Dutch Team, a Dunk Tank, and a favorite with the middle schoolers, Bubble Soccer.

In addition to the activities, a raffle took place with prizes granted such as an Applebee's gift certificate, a 20" kid's stunt bike, and a Dell Laptop.

PA President, Marissa Danzy expressed thanks after the event saying, “The day would not have been possible without the support, volunteerism, fundraising and donations from staff and parents alike throughout the year. Thank you for helping make this event a success!”
